Sugiyama Seisakusho: Bespoke Iron Furniture

atomi collaborates with designer furniture maker SUGIYAMA

Upcycled, entirely handmade and weatherproof, SUGIYAMA’s metallic furniture is exclusively available at atomi.

After establishing itself as the local high-end Japanese furniture connoisseur, atomi continues to set the trend by launching an exclusive collaboration with Sugiyama Seisakusho, a designer brand dedicated to end-to-end production of iron furniture.

Step into the world of Sugiyama Seisakusho, a brand originating from the heart of Seki-shi, Gifu Prefecture. As one of only three knife-making cities, Seki-shi has a reputation for metal processing which Sugiyama continues to uphold. Since its inception in 1962, they have been at the forefront of manufacturing excellence; initially specialising in the welding processing of car and train parts, it pivoted to making iron furniture.

For you to indulge in beauty, tireless dedication lies at the heart of your craft.

Today they blend their rich heritage with honed skills, creating functional and long-lasting furniture. Every piece of metal is treated with utmost respect and dedication, so every part lasts for generations. The antithesis of Sugiyama Seisakusho is waste: all furniture is made-to-order and has a lead time of 10 weeks. Every piece of wood and metal used is upcycled, increasing the material's longevity.

The same artisans meticulously carry out each step of the furniture production process, from planning, prototyping and designing to producing and selling. He alone cuts, bends, hits, joins and shaves, adding barely noticeable stylish whimsies. You receive the product and glance over the delicate finishing touches; you realise this is the first time anyone else will ever own a similar piece of furniture. This commitment led Sugiyama’s table to be displayed at Fuorisalone 2023, the most prestigious event of the Milan Design Week.

Enduring Grit in Style: the woman behind Sugiyama Seisakusho

Sugiyama’s ability to uphold the renowned high standards commanded by Japanese made-to-order furniture can be credited to the CEO, who has chosen to dedicate her life to continuing her father’s work. She anchors the enterprise with a gentle iron fist, giving the artisans the peace of mind to focus on their craft. Sugiyama has broken the proverbial metal ceiling in a traditionally male-dominated furniture industry.

Invest in a lifetime just for you.

Currently, SUGIYAMA’s furniture catalogue is available online at atomi. Shop. Alternatively, interested buyers can look closer at the available display pieces located at #04-27 Mandarin Gallery, Singapore 238897, or call to enquire more at +65 6887 4138.
