The atomi way ft. slow living
The Architecture of the Deep Breath: Why we are building Nippon House in the Forests of Nagano.
By Andrew Tan & Mitsuko Murano, Founders of atomi
In Singapore, we are masters of the "Future."
We are a nation built on the discipline of reserves—carefully guarding our resources, optimising our algorithms, and ensuring that our tomorrow is always more secure than our today. But as we enter the final month of Q1 2026, many of us are pausing to ask a difficult question:
In our dedication to earning a livelihood, have we forgotten to inhabit a life?
At atomi, we’ve spent 16 years building a bridge between Singapore and Japan. We’ve watched the rise of AI, the speed of robotics, and the efficiency of global manufacturing. But the "Atomi Way" has always been a quiet rebellion. While the world chooses speed, we choose depth. While others focus on the code, we focus on the craftsman.
The Nagano Pivot: From Retail to Presence
This year, we are taking our most significant leap yet: Nippon House. Deep within the ancient forests of Nagano, we are developing a series of luxury retreats that serve as a physical manifesto for the "Slow Life." Why Nagano? Because the forest doesn't rush. The trees there have seen centuries of change, yet they remain anchored, deep and meaningful.
Nippon House is not just a real estate project; it is a "Home Away from Home" for the global citizen who is tired of scratching the surface.

Depth Over Speed: The Strategy of the Soul
The tension of 2026 is that we have the technology to get more, but we often end up with less that matters.
-
Profound Conversations over Fleeting Threads: We favor human interactions that leave a mark, not just an impression.
-
Human Touch over Algorithms: You cannot "prompt" the soul of a hand-finished Nissin Mokkou leather sofa or the ergonomic perfection of a Hiroshima armchair. These are not products; they are the result of Shokunin (mastery) that takes decades to mature.
-
Quality over Quantity: Like Singapore’s national reserves, our personal "life reserves" shouldn't just be saved; they should be experienced.
The Legacy of the "Atomi Way"
Building a lasting brand requires the courage to be "Slow." It means prioritising the preservation of legacy over the pursuit of a quick exit.
At Nippon House, the air is naturally purified by the scent of Hiba wood. The furniture is crafted to last 100 years. The coffee is served in Hasami porcelain, perfected over four centuries. When you are there, you aren't just surviving; you are engaging in life fully.
As we move into the rest of 2026, we invite you to join us in this shift. Let’s use technology to buy us the time we need to go deep. Let’s choose the meaningful over the momentary.
Because at the end of the day, a life well-lived isn't measured by how fast we moved, but by how deeply we felt.
