A Rare Convergence: Dolls, Lanterns, and the Art of Going Deep
Dear friends and partners of atomi,
Tomorrow, March 3rd, 2026, marks a rare and profound alignment in our cultural calendar.
In my home, we will be celebrating Hinamatsuri (Girl’s Day), praying for the health and bright future of my two Singapore-Japanese daughters. Simultaneously, we mark Chap Goh Mei 元宵节 —the 15th day of the Lunar New Year and the final crescendo of the Lantern Festival.
As a father, seeing the Hina-ningyo dolls sit alongside the glow of the lunar lanterns is a beautiful reminder of the "Atomi Way": the seamless blending of heritages to create a life of meaning.
The Paradox of 2026
Yet, as we celebrate, we cannot ignore the world beyond our windows. We enter March amidst heavy global headlines—military conflicts in Iran, Israel, and the Middle East continue to defy easy solutions.
It is a sobering paradox. In 2026, we have achieved unprecedented heights in Artificial Intelligence, robotics, and manufacturing efficiency. We can optimise almost anything—except the human heart. Technology can provide the "What," but it remains silent on the "Why."
Depth Over Speed: Our Resolve
At atomi, our response to a fractured world is to Go Deep. For 17 years, we have served as your curators, filtering out the "temporary" to bring you the "permanent." But as we move forward, we are evolving. We are currently dedicating our energy to developing Nippon House in the forests of Nagano.
This is more than a new business model; it is a commitment to creating a "Sanctuary of Stillness."
-
While others chase the speed of algorithms, we are preserving the Shokunin (master craftsman) spirit.
-
While the world fights over borders, we are focusing on the Internal Landscape—creating spaces where you can finally slow down enough to focus.
A Shared Journey
Whether you are sipping coffee from Hasami Porcelain, resting in a Hiroshima chair, or anticipating a stay at Nippon House, you are part of this rebellion against the superficial.
Thank you for being part of our legacy since 2009. As we welcome the first full moon of the lunar year tomorrow, let us pray for peace, for our children, and for the courage to choose quality over quantity.
Warmly,
Andrew Tan & Mitsuko Murano Founders, atomi
